Sterling Lake boasts a public launch for car-top boats: canoes, kayaks, or small watercraft. Launching is free and at your own risk. You'll need approved floatation gear and your boat must be properly registered with the State of Illinois. Trailers are permitted but parking is limited tot he grass overflow lot. Electric trolling motors are allowed. Ice fishing is permitted on Sterling Lake only when conditions allow.
Directions
Located in Wadsworth in northern Lake County. At corner of Routes 173 and 41, go east on Route 173 to preserve entrance. Stay left on preserve road to lake. Two parking lots lie on western shore. Boat launch is located in first lot.
