Bess Bower Dunn (1877 -1959) was a lifelong resident of Waukegan, Illinois, an avid historian and co-founded of the former Lake County Historical Society. In 1959 she was appointed the county’s first official historian. She lectured on local history, and traveled Lake County with her box camera, photographing historic sites and natural areas. The materials she collected are preserved by the Bess Bower Dunn Museum of Lake County. Presented in this book are Dunn’s photographs and notes about Lake County’s trail trees from the Dunn Museum’s archives. Dunn’s collection of trail tree photographs, many of which she took herself, is one of the last visual records of these trees in Lake County.
