Animal Adaptations
Grade 3–8
Illinois Learning Standards
Available in year-round.
What do "playing dead" and cheek pouches have in common? Both are adaptations animals use for survival. Learn how adaptations help animals survive. With animal skins and other biofacts, students will understand the difference between physical and behavioral adaptations of some of our Illinois backyard residents.
Field Trip
Runs 1.5 hours.
Students search for camouflaged animals during an outdoor walk. A variety of animal skins shows how well wildlife is suited for its habitat. Outdoor activities illustrate unique behavioral adaptations.
