Gift of the Glaciers

Illinois Learning Standards

Available late March–early November.

Examine the fossil record and develop a timeline of significant events. Investigate igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Identify rock and fossil samples to determine their place in geological time. Explore how water and ice formed the landscape of Lake County. Students apply knowledge by taking soil core samples and interpreting the results. Through data collection and fieldwork, learn the continuing effects of glaciation.

30 students, 3 adults/group maximum.

For schools eligible for the Gateways Grant program, the program fee is waived and a transportation stipend is issued after the program date.
