The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Heron Creek opened to the public on Friday, October 10, 2008, and thanks to the dedicated work of Forest Preserve staff and volunteers, it has become a bird watchers paradise as it is home to more than 116 species of birds, including six that are on the Illinois endangered species list.
Forest Preserve staff will be on hand to discuss our current restoration work on how, thanks to a partnership with the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, we will soon complete 100 acres of habitat restoration.
While our program elements will all take place at shelter B, this is an evening outdoors at a preserve. We encourage you to dress comfortably for an evening in nature. Light bites and refreshments will be provided.
